Dts 5.1 Sound
So I have my PS4 running its sound into the optical input on my ZxR's DBpro Daughter Board and I can hear audio from my PS4 fine but I've hit a snag, Whenever I try to switch the encoder to Dolby or DTS through the sound blaster pro studio application it tells me that 'The task requires exclusive control of your audio device. Please stop playback and try again'. I'm not sure how to remedy this, even though I have enabled the option to be exclusively controlled to all ZxR related recording / playback devices in my sound options. It also switches the output in the pro studio application to speakers whenever I try to switch to the Dolby or DTS encoder. I'm assuming any of this will work in the first place though, since when I go to choose the primary output on my PS4 it gives me the option to tick in boxes to 'Select the input format supported by the device' which include Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS 5.1ch, and AAC, as stated earlier though I'm wanting to use DTS but if for some odd reason I can't Dolby is just fine. However another thing that puzzles me is that right below the menu for choosing the primary output port is this other menu that lets me choose 'Audio Format (Priority)' and it lists the options; Linear PCM, Bitstream (Dolby), and Bitstream (DTS).

To: Tony Darker, I am the author of the GrandCaymon video and the person who told you that the Roku Ultra will play YT 5.1 video. Review my previous posts as positive proof that Roku will play 5.1 beyond any shadow of a doubt. You have to consider that it is possible the problem with the Roku you ordered from Amazon might have been operator error. I looked but didn't see any posts here showing your effort. It would have been good for us in the forum to see what you were doing while trying to get it working or asking questions from those who know how to do it. I might have been able to talk you through getting it to work. Roku also has customer support, did you try giving them a call and please tell us what they said?
DTS in the home theater versus the respective moviehouse application for the same format. For a Dolby Digital sound track, a properly equipped home theater installation is capable of achieving better surround sound than its corresponding Dolby Digital audio playback in the movie theater. On the contrary, DTS sound in the home cannot achieve the same level of sound quality achievable through a DTS moviehouse installation due to the relatively reduced bit rate of the former.
DTS tracks are usually larger files and have a higher bit rate as well. I think it also has a lot to do with how the audio was recorded since not all recordings support DTS. If the option was there to choose either, I would listen to both and select the one that sounds best to you.
The other is DTS, which is also a common audio format and is also found on most DVDs and Blu-rays. It is very uncommon with streaming media, though. It isn’t quite as compressed as Dolby Digital. When to use DTS & Dolby Digital You need to use either DTS or Dolby digital in order to pass a 5.1 signal through a TV. While DTS is somewhat preferable in terms of audio quality, Dolby Digital is more widely available. • Use DTS in your setup if you only watch Blu-rays or DVDs. • Pick Dolby Digital if you also watch streaming videos. I stopped the Blu-Ray and started streaming the same program through the Samsung TV, and now it says Dolby 5.1. It seems that streaming Netflix through the Blu-Ray caused the Blu-Ray to transcode the sound to simple stereo. I then put a Blu-Ray disk in that has a DTS 5.0 sound track and it was transcoded properly to Dolby 5.1. Not sure what this means, other that using a Samsung 5900 to stream Netflix will not give you optimum sound out.
New question! The internets have not been forthcoming with a clear answer. I have a Denon AVR 789 receiver and a 5.1 speaker setup. I'm not a big fan of things like Pro Logic II, which my receiver supports (though this may be due to a lack of understanding). IMO, I'd like the best direct audio I can get without too many bells and whistles. My Xbox One can output audio in Stereo, 5.1, 7.1 and DTS Surround (all of which the receiver supports). Because I have a 5.1 speaker setup, I figure that the choices for me are 5.1 or DTS.
