Hl Dt St Dvdram Gue1n Driver
Both hard drives and both the DVD/RW and Bluray/DVDRW show up in BIOS. No S.M.A.R.T. Data issues with either HD. All four devices are SATA and have not been moved, replaced, or tampered with in any way prior to upgrade. Upon installing Windows 10 without errors, several problems arose shortly after the install; 1) After a period of time, a few minuets at best, Win 10 indicated that my secondary hard drive was failing, and needed to be scanned and repaired. (Will address this issue separately, mentioned it as it might be related.) 2) Neither of my optical drives show up in the File Explorer, the device manager, or on the Computer Management. A) Inserted a disc in to each drive in turn, both drives spin up properly, but again are not indicated as being attached to the system in the device manager or Computer Management.

I'm trying to burn a Linux rescue disk on this Laptop to take over to my Desktop that has all my documents and pictures on it, but suddenly won't boot. It won't start Windows in Safe Mode with any options at all, and it won't start normally either, though it says it's staring, then goes to a blank screen, forever. I can get to the bios and setup on the desktop to tell it to boot from the DVD player instead of the HDD, but that won't do me any good at all unless I can get this ROG thing to burn a simple DVD.

According to the 'self-troubleshooting,' the device is working properly and it has the latest drivers. I conducted a search online for newer drivers, but the two I tried did not work (one was for a Dell Inspiron and one, from the ASUS page - (File Name: HLDS GT10N ODD Firmware_1.0), did not work). I'm not even sure if they are the correct ones.
I can get to the bios and setup on the desktop to tell it to boot from the DVD player instead of the HDD, but that won't do me any good at all unless I can get this ROG thing to burn a simple DVD. Any suggestions? Thought we weren't able to do much in safe mode, but tried booting to it in my Win7 G75VW unit and was able to read a DVD there (hopefully your drive can read disks at least?) and even start burning a disk with the Power2Go software in safe mode if you want to try it. Not sure if it's a hardware or software issue, but if you have other burning software installed, you might try uninstalling it to use the built-in Win7 burning software. Otherwise, if it makes sense, consider removing the drive from your non-booting desktop and get a USB adapter to connect to another computer that can read it, or if you have a spare desktop hard drive available, install an OS on it?
I recently noticed that my DVD/CD stopped working. It spins, but nothing happens; the disc is not read.

Hope this helps, but feel free to ask for more suggestions. Odd, I have a GT51N Hitachi Burner, and all it sees with brand new CDs or DVDs are full disks, not empty ones. I put them in, it spits them out asking me to insert a writable disk. I'm beginning to want to write to that burner with a hammer. I'm running Win 7 Home Premium on a G75VW. Everything says it's working just fine; but it clearly isn't.

I have searched everywhere for a solution but there doesn't seem to be an applicable fix for the current downloaded build of Win 10. All of these issues seem to have been worked out in earlier builds of 10, but reading here and other places it seems to have accorded again. Currently sitting here with a 2T drive with all my work on it that Win 10 says is bad (it's not) and two optical drives that are not even recognized and therefore are useless. Can't even watch my movies.

I tried option 1, but, although I had upper limits showing and deleted that, this option didn't work. I was a little nervous of the 2nd option as I was not sure I understood the methodology described (right pane action 'create new DWORD EnumDevice1 and set its value to 1'). So I decided to bite the bullet and follow method 3, copy/pasting reg.exe add 'HKLM System CurrentControlSet Services atapi Controller0' /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001 into the Run field and clicked ok. After a reboot, I still couldn't see the optical drive BUT I could open the DVD ROM tray, which I could not do before.
I have been unable to get this drive to burn CD's using ITUNES while it will burn ok with Media Player and Nero Express. Trying to determine where the problem is; drivers, firmware, ITUNES, registry, etc. When searching for HD-DT-ST on the internet I see most every post is followed by a model number. Is Windows 8 not seeing one for this drive or is there no model number on the drives installed in the G75VW? The forums for Windows 8 as well as the Windows 8 Support Group and ITUNES (Apple) Support have not been much help. I have found an entry in the registry that ITUNES seems to look for (if it isn't there with high and low filters listed ITUNES say I need to reinstall it but when I do that the installation does not change or add the required entries).
I have an Asus K60IJ with a HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GT10N ATA device, running Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit). It reads commercial DVDs and DVD-Rs with no problem.
